PROFESSIONAL FISHING GUIDE

about

ABOUT

My name is Alessandro Galletti, and for more than a decade I have dedicated my life to pursuing the Hucho hucho, one of the world's most fascinating and elusive salmonids. This passion has taken me to some of Europe's most iconic rivers, where I have developed an in-depth understanding of the species' behaviour, habits, and the techniques required to successfully target it.

Today, I share that experience with anglers looking for something beyond an ordinary day on the water. Every trip is carefully planned to deliver an authentic experience in remarkable surroundings, where technique, nature, and respect for the fish come together in a single adventure.

Whether you are pursuing your first Hucho hucho or returning once again in search of the fish you have dreamed about for years, my goal is to guide you along some of Europe's most spectacular rivers and provide an adventure you will remember for years to come.

THE KING

The Hucho hucho is Europe's largest native salmonid and one of the world's rarest and most fascinating freshwater predators. It inhabits only a handful of pristine rivers, where cold waters, powerful currents, and untouched environments have shaped its character. Encountering one is a privilege. Landing one is an achievement.

The Hucho hucho belongs to the genus Hucho, the same genus as the legendary Hucho taimen, with which it shares a common evolutionary origin as well as numerous biological and behavioural characteristics. Both species are apex predators, adapted to large river systems and characterized by slow growth, remarkable longevity, and strong territorial behaviour. While the Taimen is the giant of Asia's great rivers, the Hucho hucho is its European counterpart, although with a much more limited distribution.

With specimens exceeding 130 cm in length and weighing more than 30 kg, the Hucho hucho is Europe's largest freshwater predator. Its strength, rarity, and the pristine environments it inhabits make it one of the most sought-after and prestigious catches for anglers.

This is why we call it The King. Not only because of its size, but because it represents Europe's largest, rarest, and most iconic freshwater predator. A fish that, through its history, characteristics, and appeal, holds a unique place in European sport fishing.

THE RIVERS

The destinations featured in the Hucho The King project include some of Slovenia's most renowned rivers for Hucho hucho fishing, such as the Sava Bohinjka, the Savinja, the Sava, and several other waterways that support healthy, well-established populations of this remarkable salmonid. Thanks to careful fisheries management and a strong commitment to conservation, these rivers offer genuine opportunities to encounter large specimens, including truly exceptional fish.

All waters are managed either by the Slovenian Fisheries Institute or by the local Fishing Clubs (Ribiške družine), each operating under specific regulations designed to protect and preserve Hucho hucho. The fishing season varies depending on the river and its management, generally running from October or November until mid-February.

To provide my guests with the best possible opportunities, the destination is selected on a trip-by-trip basis according to river conditions, water levels, and fish activity.

HOW WE FISH

Every fishing trip is designed to offer an authentic experience, combining technical approach, respect for nature, and a deep understanding of the species we pursue. We exclusively fish with artificial lures, using spinning and fly fishing — the only techniques permitted in Slovenia for targeting Hucho hucho and the methods that best represent the true spirit of this extraordinary fishery.

To allow you to approach each day in the best possible conditions, we provide all the necessary equipment free of charge, carefully selected and field-tested: rods, reels, lures, and everything required to take on this unique challenge.

Every catch is handled with the utmost care to ensure the fish's well-being and a quick, safe release. All our trips follow a strict Catch & Release philosophy: for us, it is not simply a rule, but a fundamental principle. We believe that respecting Hucho hucho and its habitat is the key to preserving this remarkable species and allowing future generations to experience the same emotions.
